The Beauty of a Godly Mother

In Ancient Greek, there were four words used for our one English word ‘love’. One of those four words, was ‘stergein’ used by Greek writers to describe the natural love that exists between family members: the love of a mother, for instance, for her children. A mother who has trusted in Jesus as her Lord and Saviour and received the infilling and power of the Holy Spirit, has in addition to this natural love, the ‘agape’ love of God (another of the four words for ‘love’ in biblical Greek).

The agape love of God is from God as a source, and is self-sacrificial in nature. Romans 5:5 teaches us that God has poured out His agape love into our hearts. Every believing mother therefore has within her God’s power and resources to love her children and family with the same love God expressed when He died in our place on the cross, sacrificing His life so that we might live and experience relationship with Him.
Proverbs 31 describes the mother filled with God’s love and the incredible blessing she is to her family and those around her.
